The Adoption Process:
1. Complete an application and fax to our adoption coordinator.
2. Your application will be reviewed to see if you potentially qualify to adopt. We may contact you with additional questions.
Please do not call OPRA asking if/when you are going to be able to adopt a certain pug.
We are an all-volunteer organization. We promise, we will get back to you via e-mail, on the phone, or via mail and let you know the status of your application, if you are or are not a candidate for adoption of a rescue pug, and the next step(s) in the process, if applicable. You can expect the process to take up to 2 weeks (sometimes longer) from receipt of application to the adoption of your dog, depending on the availability of pugs and whether or not a pug you are interested in is ready to be adopted (if on medical hold).
3. A home check will be required to verify the potential new home for one of our pugs
4. Your veterinarian will be contacted to verify that care is available and the history of any current/previous pets
5. If approved, your new pug will be placed in your home on a trial basis for fourteen days. If for any reason, the pug is incompatible, we require that the pug be returned to the rescue.
6. After two weeks, and your pug is deemed compatible by both you and the adoption coordinator, the adoption will be final.
Possible Reasons for a denied application:
1. A home that is not compatible for a rescue pug
2. References (both vet and personal) that do not check out
3. Other pets that may not be compatible with a rescue pug
4. Small children that may be too active for a rescue pug
5. Work hours of the adoptive parents
6. Other reasons, as determined by the Adoption Committee
